OREGANO - Natural Anti-Fungal and so much more...
The Oregano plant is a woody shrub that is found mostly in Mediterranean areas. Preliminary research conducted on oregano supports its use for various types of infections. According to research, Carvacrol is the primary component in oregano oil responsible for its effectiveness against fungus, bacteria and viruses. Numerous university studies (Georgetown, Cornell, Tennessee, etc.) and independent research have shown Oregano and Oregano Oil to be a powerful antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-fungal. In many studies, it displayed the equivalent pharmaceutical properties as some prescription medications like streptomycin, penicillin, vancomycin, nystatin, and amphotericin. In fact, just one part wild oregano oil in 4000 dilution sterilizes contaminated water.
The beauty of this natural medicinal is that it does this without promoting the development of drug resistant strains. It also does not have the side effects or complications seen with the use of standard pharmaceutical medications. It should be noted that this is not regular oregano, but a wild form (wild mountain oregano, vulgare species) of the spice. Although there are a wide variety of plants that are confused with oregano (including marjoram, thyme, and sage) true oregano grows wild in Mediterranean regions such as Greece. The wild oregano is the source of surprisingly potent oil of oregano. How it works:
The isomeric phenols (primarily Carvacrol) in oregano oil in dilutions as low as 1/50,000 destroys Candida albicans, Aspergillus fungus, Staphylococcus, Campylobacter, Klebsiella, E.coli, Giardia, Pseudomonas, and Proteus. Another phenol constituent, thymol, boosts the immune system. These compounds also act as free radical scavengers (shield against toxins) thus preventing further tissue damage while encouraging healing. All of this helps make oregano oil a significant factor in treating internal and external fungi including nail fungus, toenail fungus, candida, yeast infections, and athlete's foot. Skin conditions such a psoriasis and eczema can be improved with the treatment as well. Cass Ingram explains in his book- Oregano: Nature's Healer, the astonishing discovery that "oil of oregano outright destroys all variety of fungi and yeasts, regardless of where they reside." Dr. Cass Ingram is a physician, educator, and author of over 10 books, including his latest, "The Cure is in the Cupboard".
Oregano is such a potent anti-fungal agent that it is capable of destroying even resistant fungal forms such as the mutated fungi which result from antibiotic therapy. One astonishing fact is that fungal resistance to oregano is very rare; therefore it can be taken over a long period of time and maintains its effectiveness.
Here's the research
In an abstract in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition that appeared last year, 18 mice were injected with the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Three of the six mice that received oregano oil orally survived the infection, while two of the six mice that received the antibiotic vancomycin did. All six of the mice that received no treatment died within three days.
The same researchers also tested oregano oil's effects on mice that had been injected with the yeast Candida albicans. In the study, published last year in the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, all six of the mice fed oregano oil survived more than 30 days with no sign of Candida infection, while all six mice that were fed just olive oil died within seven days.
Another study showed that oregano completely inhibited the growth of 25 germs such as Staphylococcus aureas, Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. [Journal Food Protection, July 2001]
Yet another study found Oregano to be effective in eradicating intestinal parasites in humans. [Phytotherapy Research, May 2000]
WILD MEDITERRANEAN OREGANO which is found in Mycozil has over 50 antibacterial compounds. The organic wild variety grows in remote mountainous regions free of pollution or toxic pesticides. Only the leaves of the flowering plant are used and they are picked precisely when the plant is highest in essential oil. Mycozil contains only the purest, organically grown wild mediterranean oregano with a minimum of 70% Carvacrol to ensure high potency.
