Pau D' Arco for Fungus Infections

Pau D' Arco is found deep in the rainforests of the Amazon
and in South and Latin America and is known for it's
strong anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and
anti-parasitical properties.  It is also known as lapacho
and it is recorded to be used by forest inhabitants
throughout the Amazon for malaria, anemia, colitis,
respiratory problems, colds, cough, flu, fungal
infections, fever, arthritis, rheumatism, snakebite, poor
circulation, boils, syphilis, and cancer.

In the United States it is commonly used in the treatment
of lupus, diabetes, ulcers, leukemia, allergies, liver
disease, Hodgkin's disease, osteomyelitis, Parkinson's
disease, psoriasis and a variety of fungal infections.
It is a very popular natural remedy
for candida and yeast infections.

According to research, the chemical constituents of Pau
D'Arco are quinoids, and a small quantity of benzenoids
and flavonoids. These quinoids (and, chiefly,
anthraquinones, furanonaphthoquinones, lapachones, and
naphthoquinones) have shown the most documented biological
activity and are seen to be main constituents attributing
to the plant's efficacy as an herbal remedy. For research
purposes the naphthoquinones were renamed lapachol.

According to the phytochemical database housed at the U.S
department of Agriculture lapachol is documented as being
anti-abscess, anti-carcinomic, anti-edemic,
anti-inflammatory, anti-malarial, anti-septic, anti-tumorous,
anti-viral, bactericidal, fungicidal, insectifugal,
pesticidal, protisticidal, respiratory depressant, and
viricidal. It's not surprising that pau d'arco's
beneficial effects were seen to stem from its lapachol
content.

There is yet another chemical in pau d'arco,
beta-lapachone, which is currently undergoing a large
amount of research and has demonstrated in laboratory
studies to have activities similar to lapachol
(anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-tumorous,
anti-leukemic, and anti-inflammatory), with few
side-effects.

Primary Actions of Pau D' Arco  (in order of importance):

anti-candidal, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial,
anti-cancerous

Summary of common uses of Pau D' Arco:

Candida, yeast, toenail fungus, nail fungus, athlete's
foot and other fungal infections, leukemia and cancer

Colds, flu, and other upper-respiratory bacterial and
viral infections

Sexually transmitted diseases (syphilis, gonorrhea, etc.)

Psoriasis and dermatitis

Some of the well Documented actions of Pau D' Arco which
are backed by solid research:

analgesic (pain-reliever), antibacterial, anti-cancerous,
anti-candidal (yeast infection), anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory,
anti-leukemic, anti-malarial, anti-parasitic,
anti-tumorous, anti-viral, insecticidal

The University of Maryland Medical Center stated "Preliminary
laboratory research examining the properties of pau d'arco is
beginning to suggest that the traditional uses may have scientific
merit. Such laboratory studies have shown that pau d'arco has
pain killing, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious,
anti-psoriatic, and anti-cancer abilities. Taking this early data,
combined with information collected about traditional uses,
herbalists may recommend pau d'arco to treat or prevent a
number of conditions, including candidiasis (a yeast infection
of the vaginal or oral areas), herpes simplex virus, influenza,
parasitic diseases such as schistosomiasis, bacterial infections
such as brucellosis, and inflammation of the cervix (cervicitis)
or the vagina (vaginitis). Pau d'arco may also reduce
inflammation of the joints associated with arthritis."

Buyer Beware -  There are many Pau D' Arco supplements
which are very low quality and contain little to no
lapachol which is one of the most active ingredients.  You
should research the source of Pau D'Arco and also check to
make sure it comes from the inner bark which is the most
potent part of the tree.  It should also be organically
grown to ensure that it is free of chemical and pesticide
residues.

The Pau D' Arco contained in Mycozil is Organically
Certified Inner Bark to ensure optimum potency against
fungus.

There are very little side effects reported with Pau D'
Arco use however some people experience stomach upset or
nausea with high doses.  Also, those people who are taking
blood thinners should consider consulting with their Physician
or Dietitian as Pau  D' Arco has anti-coagulant (blood thinning)
properties.

Caution - Pau D' Arco should not be used during pregnancy!
