Candida Albicans Treatment

Candida albicans is a yeast that is naturally present in our environment and even in our bodies.  Normally, the population of candida is balanced by the presence of other microorganisms, such as fungi and bacteria.  However, it is easy for this balance of microorganisms to be upset.  For instance, when you take a prescription antibiotic to clear up an infection, you may inadvertently wipe out all of the healthy bacteria that are present in your digestive tract.  When this happens, candida is allowed to grow and overpopulate the system, causing a number of adverse side effects.

The overgrowth of candida albicans was first noted by Dr. William Crook in his 1983 book, The Yeast Connection. Candida overgrowth can cause symptoms such as migraine headaches, muscle pain, gastrointestional disorders, and vaginal infections.  The condition is also known as candidiasis, candida-related complex, polysystemic candidiasis, and chronic candidiasis.

There are number of methods you can use for candida albicans treatment. First, you should get a better understanding of the substances and situations that can cause candida overgrowth.  Then you can choose the best method for treating the condition.

Causes of Candida Overgrowth

Medications: Traditional prescription antibiotics are meant to kill off infection causing bacteria.  However, these drugs also have a tendency to kill any other that they come in contact with, even the healthy bacteria that populate the digestive tract and regulate candida.  Once these healthy bacteria are destroyed, the population of candida can grow unchecked, wreaking havoc throughout the body.  The contraceptive pill is another type of medication that can alter the balance of microorganisms in the body.

Alcohol: Alcohol is a fermented product that stimulates the growth of the candida yeast. It also weakens the immune system and leaves the body more susceptible to infection.

Caffeine: Similar to alcohol, caffeine places extra stress on the immune system and the organs.

Caffeinated drinks can also contribute to candida overgrowth.

Toxin Exposure: Exposure to certain toxins, such as dental mercury amalgam, or environmental chemicals such as pesticides or chemical cleaners can upset the balance of microflora in the intestines and cause an overgrowth of candida.

Candida Albicans Treatment

Diet: Dietary changes are essential for the elimination of candida.  Processed foods and those high in sugar and refined flours make the ideal food for candida, so unfortunately they must be avoided.  In addition, it’s a good idea to cut out alcohol, caffeine, fermented foods (such as blue cheese or cider), fruit, yeast, mushrooms, and peanuts.
Stress Reduction: Many people find that the symptoms of candida are aggravated when they are going through a stressful period of their lives.  Increased adrenaline levels may stimulate the release of sugar into the bloodstream, providing extra food for the yeast. Also, during periods of stress our immune systems are more susceptible to infection.  Therefore, one method of candida albicans treatment is to make time for stress reduction and relaxation.

Yoga, tai chi classes, meditation or even just going for an evening walk may help to relieve stress.  A massage or relaxing bath can also help.  In addition, the following herbs may be used help to reduce stress: chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, and dandelion.

Dietary Supplements: In addition to diet and stress reduction, most people will also need to use a dietary supplement to eliminate candida and restore the proper balance of microorganisms in the gut.  Here are a few of the most popular:

Herbs: Certain herbs, such as oregano, active horopito, lemongrass, anise seed, and pau D’Arco are prized for their anti-fungal properties.  If you decide to use an herbal supplement for candida albicans treatment, you should also consider taking a probiotic supplement to restore healthy bacteria to the gut.

Probiotics: A probiotic supplement will restore the balance of microorganisms in the gut by replenishing one’s population of healthy bacteria.  Always drink plenty of water when taking probiotics.

Mycozil: Mycozil is a high quality anti-fungal supplement that combines herbal anti-fungal ingredients with a probiotic healthy bacteria supplement to rid the body of candida overgrowth and repopulate the digestive tract with healthy bacteria.  Mycozil’s ingredients: oregano, anise seed, lemongrass, pau D’Arco, Baccilus latersporus, and active horopito work together to give you the most effective candida albicans treatment that money can buy.
