Home Remedy For Nail Fungus

There are a number of all natural ingredients that you can use at home to treat a nail fungus infection.  Here’s a look at some of the most effective one’s out there:

Pau D' Arco: Pau D’ Arco is a medicinal plant that is native to the South and Latin America and the rainforests of the Amazon.  It is best known for its powerful anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-parasitical properties.  Pau D’ Arco has been used for years to treat conditions such as malaria, anemia, colitis, respiratory disorders, arthritis, colds, cough, flu, fungal infections, fever, circulatory disorders, rheumatism, boils, syphilis, and cancer. 
Pau D’ Arco is currently used in the United States to treat conditions such as lupus, diabetes, ulcers, leukemia, allergies, liver disease, Hodgkin's disease, osteomyelitis, Parkinson's disease, psoriasis, and fungal infections.  It is particularly effective as a home remedy for nail fungus, candida and yeast infections. 

The active ingredient in Pau D' Arco is a chemical called lapachol.  But not all Pau D’ Arco products are alike, and many actually contain little to no lapachol.  Before purchasing a product that contains this supplement, be sure the source of Pau D'Arco comes from the inner bark of the tree, as this is its most potent part of the plant. 

Oregano: The Mediterranean is home to wild oregano, a powerful herb used to heal a number of ailments and conditions.  Wild oregano is different from the regular oregano that you may be familiar with in your cooking.  The primary component of wild oregano and oregano oil is a chemical called carvacrol.  Carvacrol is effective against fungus, bacteria and viruses. Some studies have even shown that oregano is equivalent in pharmaceutical properties to prescription medications such as streptomycin, penicillin, vancomycin, nystatin, and amphotericin.
Studies have shown that the carvacrol in oregano oil in dilutions as low as 1:50,000 destroys Candida albicans, Aspergillus fungus, Staphylococcus, Campylobacter, Klebsiella, E.coli, Giardia, Pseudomonas, and Proteus. In fact, wild oregano is such a potent anti-fungal agent that it is effective even against resistant fungal forms such as the mutated fungi which develop as a result of antibiotic therapy. Oregano is an excellent home remedy for nail fungus.

Lemongrass: Lemongrass is an herb native to Southeast Asia that today is commonly grown in India, South America, Africa, Australia, and the United States.  There are several species of lemongrass, but the Cymbopogon citratus variety is the one most often recommended for medicinal purposes.  It has both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.  One study, published in the medical journal Microbios in 1996, found that lemongrass was effective against 22 strains of bacteria and 12 types of fungi. Lemongrass can be used as a home remedy for nail fungus, toenail fungus, athlete's foot, candida or other yeast infections.  

Horopito: Active horopito is a powerful anti-fungal plant that is native to New Zealand.   This plant contains an active ingredient called polygodial that is effective against candida, especially when combined in preparation with anethol, the active ingredient found in anise seed. Horopito also contains powerful antioxidants that aid the body in healing. 

Anise Seed: Native to Greece and Egypt, anise seed is one of the oldest known aromatic seeds. Anise is often used in commercial products for its licorice-like taste and aroma.  It has also been used for thousands of years for its medicinal properties.  Its constituents are powerful as a home remedy for nail fungus, as well as bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

Bacillus Laterosporus: Baccilus latersporus elimates fungus by restoring the balance of healthy microorganisms in the colon and reducing the fungi’s available food.  This healthy bacteria is an excellent home remedy for nail fungus, candida, athlete's foot, and toenail fungus.
